She and Merlin had a son named Train, born a few years prior to their subjugation of the demon, who was killed by a demonic beast due to them being "weak-minded". Over the course of her career, she specialized herself in magic gear enchantment and would become the obvious choice for Shin's instruction. As Shin grew up, she became his instructor in magical gear enchantments at the insistence of Merlin. They rose to fame when they were called upon to fight the infamous demonized human. Years prior to the start of the series, Melida fought alongside Merlin as his wife. When the occasion arises, she enjoys poking fun at Merlin's exploits causing him to become embarrassed. Another example of this was when she remarked on Merlin's efforts to learn Gate magic in order to normalize Shin's incredible magic abilities so others would treat him more normally. She also quickly picked up on the blossoming romance between the two. Melida is also very quick to assess social situations as she quickly deduced the reasoning behind Silizien's desire for Shin's protection. Like Merlin, Melida prefers the solitude and privacy of the countryside as far away from cities as possible due to the attention their exploits received in their younger years. Any recognition she receives for her work in magical gear and enchanment causes her to become embarrassed and to downplay her contribution. Just like Merlin, whenever Shin becomes the center of political attention she becomes protective of her grandson to the point of threatening to cease formal dealings with any country considering to use him for their own gain.Īs Merlin noted, Melida cannot seem to gracefully accept a compliment. That being said, she is very fond of him and has come to care for him as if he were her own biological grandson. She also berates Merlin whenever it happens as he encourages Shin to explore the limits of his magic. Whenever anyone talks about her role in raising Shin in his youth, she casually remarks about how much attention he required due to his ability to consistently get himself into dangerous situations.
Melida often nags Shin when he does something she considers to be dangerous or unnecessarily powerful. Young Melinda in the Novel See more images here.
